So I was reading a friend's blog a couple of days ago and he commented on LavaLife being a poor way to find a person to have a relationship. I would have to agree. By putting our desires of what we are looking for in a mate into a grocery list of qualities like that we close ourselves off to individuals who may be otherwise compatible and we may not even know it. If someone doesn't meet the criteria on the checklist they are eliminated but sometimes you don't really know what you're looking for or you may find someone who actually is quite compatible when you least expect it. Sometimes it happens when you least expect it and with the person you would least expect it to happen with. I did have this theory written more eloquently but unfortunately my post was deleted so I hope this still makes sense. It seems it's harder to meet people in today's society and does that mean that more and more people will resort to a dating service to meet others? Does it mean that the odds of people having a successful relationship are getting worse? Hmmmm....

Weather is getting better..time to break out my bike and get it tuned up for the season....Woot!

Song of the Post: "Mind Sex" Dead Prez
It's time for some mind sex, we ain't got to take our clothes
off yet
We can burn the incense, and just chat
Relax, I got the good vibrations
Before we make love lets have a good conversation

[verse 1]
Pardon me love but you seem like my type
What you doin tonight? you should stop by the site
We could, roll some weed play some records and talk
I got a fly spot downtown brooklyn, new york
Now I know you think I wanna f**k, no doubt
But tonight well try a different route, how bout we start
With a salad, a fresh bed of lettuce with croutons
Later we can play a game of chess on the futon
See I aint got to get in your blouse
Its your eye contact, that be getting me aroused
When you show me your mind, it make me wanna show you mines
Reflecting my light, when it shines, just takin our time
Before the nights through, we could get physical too
I aint tryin to say I dont wanna f**k, cause I do
But for me boo, makin love is just as much mental
I like to know what Im gettin into

[chorus]
We could have mind sex, we aint got to take our clothes off yet
We can burn the incense, and just chat
Relax, I got the good vibrations
Before we make love lets have a good conversation

Its time for some mind sex, we aint got to take our clothes
off yet
We can burn the incense, and just chat
Relax, I got the good vibrations
Before we make love lets have a good conversation
Time for some mind sex...

(singing): before we make love

Yeah, what you know about mind sex?

(singing): before we make love

[verse 2]
African princess, tell me yo interests
Wait, let me guess boo, you probably like poetry
Heres a little something I jotted down in case I spotted you
around
So let me take this opportunity
Would you share a moment with me, over herbal tea?
Take a walk verbally, make a bond certaintly
Cuz in my hand I bet your hand fit perfectly
And its like we floatin out in space when you flirtin wit me
Cmon, a little foreplay dont hurt (hmmm)
Imagine my chest under this shirt, your ass under your skirt
Its like walking the hot sands and finding an oasis
Opposites attract thats the basis
Our sex is the wind that seperates the yin from the yang
The balance that means complete change, our aim
Is to touch you in a delicate spot
And once we get it started I aint trying to stop

[chorus]
But first we have mind sex, we aint got to take our clothes off
yet
We can burn the incense, and just chat
Relax, I got the good vibrations
Before we make love lets have a good conversation

Its time for some mind sex, we aint got to take our clothes
off yet
We can burn the incense, and just chat
Relax, I got the good vibrations
Before we make love lets have a good conversation
Mind sex...

[spoken]
She smiles, I smile
She walks, no she glides softly by me changing night into day
She opens her mouth to speak, and so sounds ring in my head
She speaks, and I want to dance to her rhythm
She moves ever so gently, increasing my desires,
As I place my arms around her waist,
Hold and squeeze unto me,
I want to melt into her body, and discover the base of her
warmth
Her beautiful black body that, no human mind could ever conceive
Shes love
Shes truth
Shes real, as real as the stars that shine in the heavens
As real as the sun that bathes her body,
As real as the moon that glows and the birds that sing and the
rose
That blossoms in spring for she is that rose
And not just any rose,
But a black rose,
Black rose stands tall and stronger than any other plant
A black rose, that stands as creator, of nations of
Black rose
That never loses her petals, and blossoms all year round
Black rose,
Sweet rose,
Thornless rose
Eternal rose
Please look my way,
Please look my way
Please look my way
Black rose

The First Day of Spring

Today was the first day of spring and thankfully the weather decided to live up to its obligation. I can only hope that it continues since this winter has seemed to drag on longer than usual.

I saw Finding Neverland over the weekend and once again Johnny Depp impressed me with his ability to pick great movies to star in and providing great performances.

On a different note, I love my parents but they can sometimes be so difficult. All I wanted to do was to go out together as a family to celebrate my mom's birthday and even this was a monumental disaster. It seems my parents are content with only leaving the house for work. A weird version of agoraphobia I guess. Oh well...

Is it Because She's Black?

So I went to play some poker at a friend's house last night and my game was on and I ended up winning a good chunk of change. After the game I was leaving my buddy's street and stopped at the stop sign. This cop drives by and does a double take when he sees my car and proceeds to pull over and wait for me to turn in ahead of him. After I made the turn he then begins following me for a while. Once again I do nothing wrong and keep below the speed limit and make complete stops. These guys just are itching to something ticket me for something. It begs the question that since I'm white....Is it because my car is black? I mean everyone who knows me knows that I refer to my car as Laquisha 'cause she's black so maybe this extra attention from the man was brought on by the skin colour of my car. LoL!

All in all a good night otherwise since I am always strapped for cash and I was able to make some money to hold me over until my next paycheque. Wooot! It also looks like I am going to catch the Jack Johnson and U2 concerts. Double Wooot!

Drowning in my Existential Angst

I am not sure if it is the amount of existential philosophy that I am reading lately, or if it relates to the present state of affairs in my life, but I can't stop asking my self the "big questions" of life. Questions relating to my purpose of being here walking the surface of the Earth, going through the motions, educating myself in the hopes that my investment in human capital will materialize into some form of monetary return. This of course begs the question "Why is it about money?" and this strikes up more thoughts of the purpose of life.

My assumed progress in my journey to discovering my spirituality being diverted by recent interactions with some of my more spiritual friends. While I acknowledge that this journey is primarily introspective and others should have no bearing on the outcome of my voyage, I have nonetheless been diverted from my path. Coincidently, at the same time I have begun studying the writings of Nietzsche.

Lately, my thoughts have been centred on love. My foolish aspirations of perhaps someday being part of my own nuclear family with my 2.3 children are dwindling. It seems that when ever I begin to make progress in overcoming my lonliness I am sent back down into the spiral of singledom and the depression that accompanies it. To quote my best friend "Depression is like the fucking cat that comes back!".

I often find myself in a catatonic state drifting from people watching to contemplating the possibility of finding "The One". Maybe I am the idealist or hopeless romantic that I've been accused of being. Is that my tragic flaw? Am I doomed to join the fallen heroes at the end of the story? It sometimes seems that way. But I guess I am not alone in my hopes of finding my "perfect" mate. I have been told that I am not the one so that means someone else is also in search of that ever elusive "one". Perhaps it's my altruistic nature that leads to my unhappiness in the relationship department. I thought that self-sacrifice was a necessary part, but not the only part, of having a good relationship but it doesn't seem to count for much. I seem to find more and more examples of women who are attracted to possessive, selfish and controlling men. I can't understand the rationale behind this. I guess that's just it...who said love was rational.

Wow...this post is turning into a giant piece of random crap. Forgive me. To my friends and family members reading this there is no need to be alarmed. This is just me being manic.

I need to get out of this funk...I like to take night drives to clear my head so I think this would be as good a time as any and I have just the tune for the ride....

Is it a Full Moon?

What is going on in our city this week? There's a guy who throws his five year old daughter off a bridge then jumps and kills himself.(the little girl made it) Then there's a guy who runs up and down Yonge St. threatening to kill people with a knife in his hands and today I guy decides to take a gasoline shower and set himself on fire. It's either a full moon or the winter blues is sending everyone into a frenzy.

I went by the construction site of my condo and it put a smile on my face to see actual progress being made and having something above ground level erected. It was one of the few things to put a smile on my face recently. It seems like I try and get the pieces of my life together and something falls off somewhere else. Meh! Sigh!

I can't wait for this week to end. I have midterms and a presentation from hell to do and this is my way of procrastination. I have no motivation and I hate my chosen topic. I didn't hate my topic when I picked it but some how my thesis advisor has demanded a certain direction that I have to follow and that licks hot sweaty bung hole. (sorry for the image but I had to release)

On the upside, my sensei is impressed with my level of dedication which is a compliment I am proud of but don't totally agree with. Hehe.

Dah! I guess that's all for now. I'm going to wallow in my bitterness. Excuse me.

Is It the Weather?

My cousin just got back from vacation and she brought up a good point. She told me that while she was away her lifestyle was changed. The good weather encouraged her to go out and enjoy the day by waking up earlier and going to bed sooner. The weather definitely has a negative effect on my enthusiasm like today I took a mid afternoon nap instead of doing something else. Oh where are thou sunshine?

I did one of those online IQ tests after getting a pop up on my screen for it. It seems I have an IQ of 135 which puts me in the top 1% of the world's population. Yeah right! I never put much stock in IQ tests. Just because you have above average logic skills and you can determine the next number in a sequence doesn't make you smart in my eyes. I think a truly intelligent person also has an understanding of culture. Book smarts are great but I don't really enjoy talking about eigenvectors all that much. But if someone tells me how bernini was the architect behind St.Peter's Square, Dostoevsky wrote "Crime and Punishment" or that Gericault painted "The Raft of the Medusa" I would be impressed.

Its crunch time at school and I can't stand it. I've got to give it the final push and just be done with it. At the same time I've been suffering from the lonely's but it's all part of the healing process I guess. I attribute it to the fact that I'm a bit of a people watcher and working in a kiosk in a mall I get to see all these people interact. A friend of mine told me that he was thinking of his ex and felt that he didn't want to find someone else in order to fill that void. While I agree, at this point it's no longer a rebound issue and we have to realize that because of the length and seriousness of our past relationships it's natural to keep thinking of the "Ex" once in a while. In fact, I don't think you ever stop having periodic thoughts or memories of that person. It's only natural.

Still debating the issue of Dubai, although, it was refreshing to get support from my cousin. Most of my friends haven't said that I should think twice but I can tell they have their reservations on the issue and I don't blame them. I have the same reservations. I just feel I need a change.

Progress....

So I went for my follow up appointement with my orthopaedist yesterday. I took a few more xrays and was told that everything was looking good and I got referred to a physiotherapist. The physiotherapist told me that my knee was left dislocated for too long which could negatively impact my healing process. DOH! However, he was happy with the stiffness of my patella considering this. I was given a series of excercises to do to strengthen my now atrophied left quad and strengthen the medial patellar ligament. All I have to say is that I now know why tv shows always make rehab such a laborious process. Sheesh! So many excercises and they hurt! The absolute best news I received was that I was no longer going to be in a knee immobilizer and now was going to be in a "J splint" or a patella stabalizer. So now I look like Stone Cold Steve Austin. (Although his brace doesn't support the kneecap so mine looks a little different) Soon I'll be opening a can of whoop ass on somebody....Oh Snap!LOL This also means that I can begin driving again. Woot! I've missed my car sooooo much.

a la Stone Cold

My Brace

I brought up the issue of working in a foreign country to my mom this weekend and it was met with the response I expected. "NO" hahaha. When will my parents realize that I can't always be within arm's reach?
